HP today unveiled all new consumer notebook and netbook PCs designed to deliver the ideal balance of performance, features and style just in time for the upcoming holiday season. The team from NotebookReview was invited to spend some hands-on time with these latest laptops, and HP didn't disappoint.
For starters, HP hopes to deliver a multimedia splash this Christmas with the HP ENVY 17 3D – the first 17 inch notebook pc to support 1080p 3D and Blu-ray – and the HP ENVY 14 Beats Edition with its impressive speaker output and all-black design with high-performance headphones included.
The popular HP Pavilion dm3 notebook also gets a major refresh this time with the latest Intel Core-series low voltage processors for better performance and better battery life along with a completely new chassis design and an HP-developed "intelligent cooling system" to minimize heat and provide consumers with an easy way to control maximum performance and still obtain maximum comfort without a burning notebook on your lap.
Last, but certainly not least, the HP Mini 210 HD likewise receives a major exterior redesign to match the new look of the Pavilion dm3 and now comes in a broader range of color options with matching available accessories priced low enough to be the perfect stocking stuffer.
HP ENVY 17 3D
While we've seen several 15-inch gaming and multimedia notebooks with 3D-capable displays, most of the current generation 3D notebooks require low-resolution (1366x768) displays and also require external 3D emitters for use with 3D active shutter glasses. The new Envy 17 3D features a 17.3-inch HP 3D Ultra BrightView Display that provides vivid 1,080p (1920x1080) resolution perfect for 3-D Blu-ray content. HP 3D Active Shutter Glasses provide a seamless viewing experience by wirelessly synchronizing each frame of the 3D content between the display and the glasses, enabling a higher quality image. The 3D emitter is built into the bezel of the screen so it's easy to take your 3D viewing experience with you wherever you go.
The Envy 17 3D also features Beats Audio and an HP Triple Bass Reflex subwoofer to provide a better listening experience when you're watching Avatar for the 120th time. The main body of the notebook is made from etched brushed aluminium and the hardware is configurable with up to 2TB of storage capacity, powerful quad-core Intel Core i7 processors and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 discrete graphics. The HP ENVY 17 also offers ATI Eyefinity Technology for multiple external display support.
The HP Envy 17 3D is expected to be available this holiday season with pricing to be determined (although it is estimated to start at less than $2,000 with full 3D capability and one set of 3D glasses). Additional information about HP Envy 17 3D is available at www.hp.com/go/ENVY
